Ordering, Shipping & FAQ

The practical details

How ordering works, what shipping costs (nothing), and answers to the questions we hear most about grades and storage.

How ordering works

Every product on the Shop page has a Buy Now button. It takes you to a secure checkout page hosted by Stripe, where you choose your quantity and enter your shipping address and payment. No account needed, and we never see your card details. Where a PayPal option is shown, that works the same way on PayPal’s side.

Shipping

Shipping is free on every order — no minimum. Orders are packed and shipped from Shepherd, Michigan.

If something goes wrong

Glass and freight are occasionally a bad combination. If your order arrives damaged or isn’t right, get in touch and we’ll make it right.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between Dark/Robust and Amber/Rich?

They’re two of the four USDA grades of pure maple syrup, and the difference is when in the season the sap ran, not quality. Amber/Rich comes earlier: lighter color, smooth, classic maple taste. Dark/Robust comes later: deeper color and a stronger, more pronounced maple flavor. Neither is “better” — it’s a matter of taste.

Which grade is best for baking and cooking?

Dark/Robust. Its stronger flavor comes through in baked goods, glazes, and marinades where a lighter syrup can get lost. It’s also the grade of ours that has placed at the North American Maple Syrup Council’s annual conference four years running.

How should I store maple syrup?

Unopened, keep it in a cool, dark place — a pantry is fine, and it keeps for a long time. Once opened, store it in the refrigerator. For long-term storage, maple syrup also freezes well: it won’t freeze solid, and it loses nothing in flavor.

Is your syrup really organic?

Yes — certified USDA organic, covering the sugarbush and how the syrup is handled from tree to bottle. And it’s all boiled over a wood-fired evaporator at our camp north of Mancelona, Michigan.

Do you bottle syrup from other producers?

Never. Every drop we sell comes from our own trees, gathered and boiled by us. That’s a promise we’re happy to put in writing.

Can I buy your syrup in a store?

Yes — we’re on shelves in stores across Michigan, including Oryana Community Co-op in Traverse City. If you run a store and would like to stock us, see Wholesale.
